Witch Who Wanted to Be a Princess, The

Reading Seed Center

Literacy Library

Imagine you are a 14-year old who is struggling to read. You can read a basic children’s picture book-–but would you want to? Would there be anything in that book to challenge or excite you?

For older children whose reading skills are below their grade level, to become interested in and excited about reading, we provide books that match their interests and cultivate their imaginations.

Special books are available for children who are reading far below grade level. The topics interest older students, but the writing is geared towards readers of all levels. Such books are in short supply at local schools, and because they are not mass produced, they are expensive.

Our library of these age-appropriate “leveled readers”, also called “low level, high interest” books, are available for loan to teachers, Reading Coaches, school librarians, other mentors, parents and students throughout Pima County.

How our Library works

Our goal is to facilitate getting age-appropriate leveled readers to students who need them. Our librarian will work with teachers, school librarians, Reading Coaches, other mentors, and parents to find the right books for each student.

Those interested in borrowing our books can call the Literacy Library or log onto our searchable database to see what books are available. Just tell our librarian about the student–-age, interests and reading level-–and we’ll tell you what books we have available that might be a good match.

The books can be delivered to the student’s school or picked up at our Literacy Library. Books can be checked out for up to one month at a time. Get acquainted with the opportunities that the Literacy Library provides.

FREE Books

The Literacy Library also serves as a clearinghouse for general interest children's books to be given to local children, free, to keep. We have shelves of donated children's books available free for the taking. Children who have books at home tend to be better readers.

Come visit our donation library--if books are available, you're welcome to them.

Donations of children's books will help us provide the books to make this all happen--contact us today!
