| How Do I Use The Guided Reading Chart? |
| |
| Please
reference the chart on the right to guide you when selecting books for
children to read.
All books in this library have been coded with a F&P
ranking levels which represents the complexity of the book. This conversion
chart cross references the normal range of F&P levels to a person's
school grade level.
Notice when you look at the chart that first grade books
range from Guided Reading Levels B through I. Thus an I difficulty
book is for children exiting first grade, while a B level
book is for children just entering first grade. Examining the chart shows
you the range of difficulty at each grade level.
A child must read a book at 90-95% accuracy before he/she
can process enough of the information in the text to comprehend or benefit
from reading the book.
Use our advanced
search tool to assist you in selecting and reserving books for your
students. Follow these steps when using the advanced search.
- Enter the next level F & P ranking above the previous book successfully
read.
- Add some keywords of child interest in the description field, such as "spiders".
- Ask the library tool to search for a list of next step appropriate
books to challenge your student's reading growth.
- Reserve the books you wish to read with the student.
- Either pick them up or schedule to have them delivered to your school.
